Hello!  Arts week came and went..as quick as a flash! After months of intensive preparation, the 10 days flew by and I really enjoyed the whole experience. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and chatting to all the visitors exploring the Arts Trail and was overwhelmed by the wonderful feedback received about my paintings. A bonus for me was that I sold four of my paintings along with lots of the cards, some of which I made myself, the others I had printed especially for Arts Week.

I must shout out a huge THANK YOU to the management and staff at Puxton Park, both the Farm Shop and especially The Meadows Restaurant for being such wonderful hosts throughout Arts Week! Not forgetting Gary and the Falconry Centre – if it wasn’t for Gary and the birds, there would be no paintings to display!

We had some fab publicity photos in the local paper which showed off our paintings brilliantly…and to top it all, my friend and fellow artist Lon Sandford heard the exciting news that her Abstract Painting of a Hammerhead Shark won Runner Up prize in the BBC Wildlife Artist Of The Year Competition. Mid-Arts Week, she made the trip up to Marwell Zoo to be awarded her prize! Congratulations Lon!!! Results should be published in September’s issue of the BBC Wildlife Magazine, so keep your eyes peeled.

Local paper report on North Somerset Arts Week, Mandi Baykaa-Murray

Since Arts Week, I’ve been recovering (it was exhausting but in a good way!) and trying to catch up with all the things that were put on hold for the 10 days, so not much painting has been going on. I managed to get 2 of my paintings accepted into the Royal Bath & West Show, and I Sold one of them!!!!

However, I’d been approached in Arts Week by a young journalism student, George Dowle who wanted to make a short documentary style film about North somerset Arts Week as a University project. Little did I know what he had in mind…George turned up at my house with cameras, lights and microphones…to interview me!!!! I was quite nervous but George was very good at putting me at ease with a relaxed and informal interview technique. Before I knew it, I was chatting away in front of the cameras without being overly aware they were recording. George also suggested we do some filming with the Birds of Prey that I paint – that was great fun!! Below is the link to watch the resulting documentary…I think he’s done a great job! I hope you can take the time to have a look  – its only 10 minutes long and also features my friend and fellow artist, Hayley Jones who runs The Coach House Studio And Gallery in Clevedon. Let us know what you think….enjoy! 🙂
