I’m not sure where to begin – the past couple of months has been a bit of a roller coaster ride!

Back in January while recovering from a perforated ear drum (and feeling pretty sorry for myself) I bit the bullet and entered one of my paintings into the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year Competition. I entered last year for the first time and wasn’t shortlisted, and I wasn’t expecting anything different this year. Until… late one evening having been out for the day, I checked my emails and to my surprise, there it was… An email from DSWF saying my entry ‘Feathered Friend’ has been shortlisted and selected for the exhibition!!!!! Talk about gobsmacked. I was excited, shocked and surprised all at the same time. Everyone at home had already gone to bed, but I dashed upstairs and woke my husband to tell him my news. I don’t think it really registered.

I knew my Mum would ‘get it’ so I grabbed the phone and rang her…all the while leaping and bounding around my front room in a state of over excited disbelief. As I was gabbling at a hundred words a second, I read and re-read the email just to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. Woohoooooo!!!

Well, as it happens, I wasn’t dreaming. It is real, I have been shortlisted. I’ve had my painting framed in a super duper frame with ‘museum quality’ glass – this frame cost almost as much as I’ve been selling most of my paintings for! Looks like I’ll have to re-think my pricing in future.

This week, I received my invitation to the private view of the Exhibition at The Mall Galleries on June 2nd and my train tickets to London are booked. I’ll also be having an impromptu day out in London on May 30th when I have to deliver the painting – I can’t wait!

My big goal for this year was to Exhibit at the Annual MIWAS Exhibition in August (which I’m in the process of entering) but the David Shepherd WAY has been a mind-blowing surprise. It just goes to show that it’s all worth the effort. I’m so pleased I entered. I will definitely be posting photos and telling you all about the exhibition in June, so watch this space. 😀 😀 😀
